Elaine Cohen

Born in New York and raised in California, Elaine first dreamed of becoming an artist when she was five years old. After graduating from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, college or a fine art academy were not options open to her.  Instead, Elaine married at a young age, had two sons, and settled into motherhood.  Her dream of becoming an artist was put aside.

After a career that saw her do everything from selling Ferraris to Assistant Vice President of Administrative services and The Board of Governors at a National Physicians Insurance Company, it was finally time to begin her dream. She began by studying sculpture with Robert Cunningham, a former Artist-in-residence at the Getty Museum.

Since Elaine began her journey in the world of art she has received numerous commissions for sculpted and pencil portraits.  Her work was accepted into the Smithsonian National Portrait Competition for the opening of the new portrait Gallery.  She was the featured “Emerging Artist” on PBS White House Chronicles on three separate episodes.   Elaine has also been voted best sculptor at the Art A Fair for six years and voted one of the top ten artists in the peoples choice poll at the Art A Fair.   This past year Elaine was voted one of the top ten artists in the Patrons Choice contest at the festival of Arts.  After what seemed like an eternity, the joy of creating and showing her work has brought a wonderful whirlwind of experiences.
